Save The Tigers

Save The Tigers!

Would you recognize the beautiful coat of the prowling tiger if you saw one? You probably would now-but if the conditions are still the same, you wont be seeing their luscious coats anymore because they'll be extinct! If you haven't realized the White Tiger and the Sumatran Tiger are critically endangered. We need to help save the forests so the tigers can live in peace and we need to stop poaching them

APP, an industry that makes paper/toilet paper/paper towels, have cut down at least 5 million acres of Sumatran rain forest-and that's only one of the many facts I have for you. Statistics show that the Global Wildlife Trade Monitoring Network, or GWTMN, poaching for trade is responsible for over 78%of Sumatran Tiger deaths. This is a disgrace, treating animals poorly and then taking their lives just to make yourself look more fashionable. What have they ever done to you? Even though they only hunt deer, cattle and wild boar-their only predators are humans. There are probably less than 400 Sumatran Tigers left in the world, and I'd like that number to raise higher and higher! So please help the Sumatran Tigers.

                                                                Save the orangutans!

Do you know those shaggy reddish furry primates that swing through the tropical rain forests whilst eating juicy fruits? Orangutans are our lovable monkeys that are dying by the minute.

Orangutans are slow and steady creatures that move past life without a worry and have a good time! But there isn't much orangutans can enjoy thanks to us humans. We humans have upset the balance of nature and with that the wildlife has to pay for our doing. Orangutans population has gone down to 20,000 and 5,000 orangutans die each year! Which means within 10 years orangutans will be extinct if we don't act.

Excerpt From My Narrative

Ashleen-

Paragraph 4:

Shailene faked a smile, but behind it pain rocketed thru her chest like bullets in a warzone. She was drained, the pressure was on, harder than ever before. This week would be when the final team of Dauntless would be made. It was tough, it was risky, it was the detector of the worthy.

Paragraph 7:A few minutes passed when suddenly Ansel broke the silence. He looked up...

Shailene knew his coming announcement wasn't one he found easy to say. Through gritted teeth and tensed hands and a smile dominated by worry he muttered: “We can’t go back” His quiet words echoed in her mind immensely.  She began to sniffle. His muscular arms comforted her as she hugged him. It's okay, he smiled. But deep down they both knew that just like hers his heart was breaking.

Training so hard...exhausted...every day only five hours sleep and I've had enough.
It all started on my fifth birthday. From that day on i knew…I had a feeling
that I was gonna be an All Black.

I started playing rugby at the age of three and when i was about five years old I took rugby seriously and had dreams of becoming an All Black.
My biggest support was my parents I loved my dad because he always took me to rugby games. He also had dreams of becoming an All Black but fell short so he thought the closest thing to becoming an All Black was to be a fan and support me.My mum and dad were great support they would take me to all my games and even All Black games. You could say...I was obsessed with rugby.

Queens Birthday Weekend!

"Good afternoon Alana" says Mrs Sutherland. "Good afternoon Mrs Sutherland" I reply. Everyone starts to chatter about what they are going to do over the weekend. All I can hear is "wanna have a sleepover?", "I'm going away!" and "I'm just staying home." It's only lunchtime, but I get to go home early! Well actually not home home but my Dad's house... I'm staying there for the weekend. Of all the places I could have gone on a long weekend - WHY my Dads?

"Hey Mum?" I question. "Yeah honey?" my Mothers soft voice echoes round in my mind. "Why do I have to go to my Dad's?""You just do honey, OK?" my Mother lets out a small sigh."OK" i mummer back. I tilted the chair back and slowly drifted off to sleep.

I suddenly wake up and see and trucks bonnet right in front of us, FIFTEEN times our size... I scream ... my Mother started sprinting over to the car. They opened the door and tried to calm me down. "Hey kid" I see my Father standing there covered in oil. "Ready to go?" he questions with a big smile on his face. "Of course Dad" I shout at the top of my lungs. It echoes through the mountains.

Later that night, after Chinese for dinner (which was DELICIOUS!), I was in my room watching telly and realized how boring this was. So I started to clear out all my draws by 11:30pm I had FIVE whole bags of clothes I either didn't fit or didn't want.

"Wake up, hurry,WE'LL BE LATE!!!!!" I scream while running round the house with only one boot on. We were going to be late for soccer if we didn't hurry. We finally got to the grounds and couldn't find our field. After 20 minutes of searching we discovered the right field and started the game. We lost 5/0 to Ice Angels. Ugh!!!

That night we had Roast Pork with Roast Veges, Gravy and Apple Sauce! It was so yummy a great end to an awful day.

Queens birthday weekend by Ethan

On the Queens birthday... My Grandpas Brother and my Grandma died. I was really sad on Monday because I knew them so well, I will miss them lots.
On the bright side we went out to Takanini. We saw Grant (my uncle). We organised lunch at the Sugar Loaf . He got us flowers. we then got a new game at the Warehouse! After that we went home and played the new game. Then my uncle Bruce came over for the last shoot of the season. First we went to our pond. We came up really close to our fence and slowly walked towards the pond . Then we shot up! About 50 ducks flew out but they all flew out of range.
We then walked over to our river, we stayed there for awhile, two ducks flew right over us but we weren't ready so they flew over. Then we walked over to home and cleaned the guns to they were spotless. We had a sad and thrilling time this weekend. But can't wait for the next Queens birthday.

Queens Birthday Weekend.

I woke up, the clock beside my bed said 09:58, Sat 31st May. The small of the stove turning off filled the air of my bedroom. I slowly got out of bed and put on my dressing gown. My dad was making french toast and when he saw me coming he turned the stove back on. In ten minutes I was stuffed with french toast and orange juice.

The Queen’s Birthday Weekend by Catherine

The Queen’s Birthday Weekend

On Monday the 2nd of June ,me and my sister Caroline ( her nickname to me is “Car”) were at our great grandmother’s (I just call her gran). When I woke up,I woke up to two people and for some reason my arms were sore, but since I usually find myself half on the ground when I wake up ,it was probably just me laying on my arms in the night (like usual).

After I woke up ,there was a tray with honey crackers and a hot chocolate. After “my wake up breakfast” and real breakfast, I went and reached up to one of the cupboards and got down my purple MP3  player and started listening to it ,here are some songs I listened to: Dark horse,G.U.Y, Should have known better,Survive(its weird and awesome)and a few others I can't remember.

Later that day I went shopping(not MY thing at all) with my gran and sister “Car” and got key rings for me and my two BFF’s Lilly and Alyssa.Just before that though, me Caroline and my gran went to try and find the books "My sister the Vampire",but we only found three books in two whitcoulls stores, which we obviously got.So now I've got three "My sister the Vampire" books, number 5(Take Two),6(Love Bites) and 10(Date With Destiny).

George's Queens Birthday

My Queens birthday weekend
On Monday the second of June i was at home with Dad; after Kim and Mum had left to take Kim to a three year old party where she was dressed up as a face painting fairy, I watched ‘The Hunger Games’ it was quite exhilarating and sick, because kids had to fight to the death ton survive.

Soon I was bored again, technically I wasn't banned from my dirt bike so I asked Dad whether or not I was allowed to ride he said “yes but do it before Mum gets back otherwise we will both get in trouble”. So I ran up to my room to put my gear on in five minutes I was out riding in the paddock with the jump I can do a few tricks like no-hander and no-footer.

on one of the jumps I landed wrong and felt pins and needles up my vertebrae for five minutes. After that I decided to change paddocks to the fast paddock, which has one hill and a drop off into a hole that comes back up the other side. As I dropped into the hole there was suddenly a crack and a snap as I ran over a dead rabbit YUCK!

I came in after that because I still had the shivers from running over the rabbit. Just as well because just as I walked in Mum came up the driveway. I was safe from her now but she still looked suspiciously at the blood on my tires from the rabbit.

Queens Birthday By:Josh

On the 31st of may my family and i had no sport on so we decided to do something special… but we did not know at all what we were going to do. mum and dad told us to think about something we we could do and tell them at breakfast.

For breakfast we had mushrooms, bacon, pancakes and french toast and it was delicious!!! Sophie and I didn't have any clue what we could do but Lucy and dad needed  to get some new stuff like  Lucy needed a present for her friend Paige and dad needed some new shoes.

When we got there I looked at my vans and i said to my mum and dad “I need some new vans” so they said “well… we could have a look”. When we got inside I found Amazon the shop; Amazon has heaps of cool clothes for boys and girls and including vans. I tried on a size eight when my old ones were size seven but the eights were still a bit small so I got some nines and tried them on and so we got the nines.

After the shop we went home and did some weeding to get some pocket money from mum and dad.

The Queens Birthday By Jaymeson

The Queens Birthday
On Monday the 2nd of June, it was the Queens birthday… But for us, young children it was an extension to our weekend!

I, Jaymeson, woke up on Monday at Eight o’clock in the morning; I could hear the birds tweeting!

I jumped up, and put on my old wintry clothes, and walked to get my breakfast with my brother, Ethynn.

After breakfast, (Which was Marmite on toast!); My mum woke up and asked me if I could do some work for her! (My mum is opening a shop in Clevedon Village on Sunday 8th June) So… half of the day was occupied with chores for my Mum!

Half of my day dragged so slowly… but eventually I had finished!
At Three O’clock (After lunch) I went and practiced my guitar because I have a guitar competition on Friday the 13th of June!

At round about Four O’clock I was sick of being stuck inside so I decided to play rugby outside…

After my run outside I hopped onto the couch in our living-room, fatigued and started to play on my I-pad.

The sun went from light to dark in what felt just a few minutes! It was six and time for tea…

The day for me went slow to quick and surprisingly was quite relaxing! (DEFINITELY not what would happen on a normal weekend!)

I hopped into bed and read until Eight o’clock and fell right asleep.

Queen's Birthday Weekend-Ashleen

By Ashleen

Friday
After what felt like a long week at school, we were all pumped to know that the Queen's birthday meant a public holiday for all!
We, after eating our dinner went shopping.
Ah, Ah
I was yawning and it was not even half-past nine.

Saturday
On Saturday me and my Mum baked a cake, it was a Pineapple and Peach cake, it was very delicious. We were all sound asleep after watching t.v with Dad. We watched: ‘Alaska- The Last Frontier’ a TV series based on a family who live in Alaska, it teaches people about the rough lifestyle they have (hunting in the forests, snow-storms keeping them inside for months on end. etc, etc)

Sunday
Just as the alarm sounded I woke, this was something I surely dreaded.
I better get up I thought to myself, i’d been asked to assist with a riding lesson. I knew I couldn't be late. A couple of hours wasn't too EARLY don’t ya think! Turns out, I had got the times wrong. Finally, 3 hours later -literally.
After catching and tacking up the ponies we were leading 2 girls around the arena.

The Queen's Birthday Weekend was nice and relaxing as we didn't do much.

I was born into a large, multicultural family. This has had quite a big impact on my life.I have learn't different values from my parents who hold differed beliefs. Although they may share some things, my parents have quite varied personality traits. Their families are very different in comparison of each other.I think it all comes down to culture. Because of my parents inter-racial marriage, my sisters and I have mixed blood. One of it's impacts on us is being more culturally sensitive.

If I ever got a chance to look into the future (seriously that would be awesome) I would hope to see me and a loving family. By family I mean like a husband and maybe some children. We would have a nice house and would be getting paid well. I would be a vet and also a part time dance teacher. I would also have time to hang out with my kids. My children would not be spoilt but know how lucky they are. That would be the perfect life for me.

When my 5th birthday came it was one of the best days of my life. I was going to big boys school. All my cousins were there to guide me in  the right way to success. I had bought my school uniform and went into my class room, I went and sat down on the carpet with all my friends then the 9:00 bell went, Mrs Singh entered the room, I was nervous. But it turned out to be a great day.

My symbol

My symbol

The symbol that I have chosen is my Great, Great Granddads symbol. He was a cargo shipper that shipped many goods to many places.
He sailed one ship, that ship was like his treasured house. He named his ship: Master Velocidade.
The symbol is located on the right of the ship, there are three sails on the ships: The Foremast, The Mainmast and the Mizzenmast. The symbol is between the bow (which is the front bowsprit) and the stern (which is at the back of the ship) is is also located under the Mainmast (in the middle).
The symbol represents cargo shippers, every ship that sailed goods to places back in the mid 1800 were called the king of the waters.
The symbol has the shape of a ship with water splashing up in the air, there is a crown overhead, that represents the "King", of King of the seas.
He sailed supplies, materials, equipment for the government in other countries and more. that was not all they did! They were often called over to Germany, France, England,  Canada and even places like Greenland! Without these trusty, "King of the sea" ships most people wouldn't have survived or lived.
I chose this symbol for myself and my personal history because it has been treasured going from family to family, to now. It is most likely to travel further down the route. We keep it all stored in this precious cupboard that has the picture of my Great, Great Granddad in the army, a photo of the symbol, a photo of his ship, a mini replica of his ship and finally an quote written by him: A ship in harbor is safe, but that's not why ships are built. This means that having a ship and keeping it / it safe is great but that's not what they are for, they are meant to be used to have a long, great, happy, live-full life and used well.

My family symbol

The shield with the cow on it is because my family, well my whole family farmed all the way though to my Great, Great, Great GrandFather.
My mums dad, had a huge farm (1,310 achers) I was pretty blowed away when I had heard he  had that much. Also my dad's dad had a big farm too(351 archers, they had about 2000 cattle and 500 sheep.
Know I have a farm, it's not I big, only 3 achers but when your out standing in the fields it seems really big. We have a motobike four wheeler 450cc maybe its a bit too much for the place but it help us a lot.
Back to my Great, Great, Great Grandfather, he had a farm and his son proberly had a farm and so on. In those days every one basically had one. My family is not the technology sort of people, where the people that knows every thing in the outdoor and I know quite a bit of that stuff my self.
I like farming because I love the animals and the outdoors because it's pure and fresh and no fumes from the cars.

My weekend.

My weekend

The weekend was tedious. My brother was at a party, my Mum and Dad were out watching a movie with their friends, and I...? Was doing homework.
I was revising the Pythagoras theorem and trigonometry; it was boring.
Those long hours finally came to an end, I was finished; time for me to eat lunch.

I sat there, stolidly eating my lasagna in boredom.
After I was finished I sprung up, startling my body and strode over to the sink, I needed to clean the dishes. Half an hour later I realised that the dishes were not getting any cleaner than they were half an hour ago, still plain, old and sloppy. It was time to bring out the huge, colossal brush, to get the job done.

I was fatigued, so I decided to have a paltry nap. My nap went from 2, till 3, till 4,5,6,7,8 I woke up, stunned, the sunset revealing before my eyes, I was exasperated that my quick catnap engulfed into a dog tired sleep. The night dragged along that consummated with a long restless Saturday night.

My holiday

My holiday
I was driving down the swerving road to the beach trees tussocks littered the road sides a motor bike wobbled and fell my mom stopped and made sure that he was ok we kept going to the beach I stepped on to the stone slabs leading down to the beach I put on my life jacket and got on to the sea biscuit and I started to go on to the top of the water I skimmed across the water and the boat turned sharply I flew out across the water I then saw the distinctive ribbons of the sun setting I then got pulled in to the shore I stood in the water perfectly still not a ripple then I saw that there was a shiny silver thing in the water about a meter away from me it vanished then I saw it again I grabbed at it I was holding a baby snapper I put it back in to the water is swam away. I got a towel and we drove away.

Wednesday 19 February 2014

My holiday

"I got the white jelly bean!" I shouted, I reach for a white jelly bean hoping it's coconut flavor not the pungent baby wipe flavor. I slowly place the jelly bean in my mouth...I chew slowly...Yes! It's coconut flavor I'm so lucky! "Are you going to have a go Miles?" I ask, He shakes his head. "Jordan?" I ask again, "No way!" he replies."come on, mum are you going to have a go?" I wait for her answer. "OK I'll try" replied mum. She spun the wheel and it lands on... BLUE! "Your so lucky mum!" I shout. Blue's the best, it's either Blue berry or toothpaste!. She chews the jelly bean, swallows then says "I got blue berry", lucky mum.

Now it's Hayden's turn, he spins the wheel nervously, "ha ha! Your gonna eat centipede!" I shout in his face, "or strawberry jam. I hope I get strawberry jam...What does centipede even taste like?!" He questions. Rachel replies"I don't know you'll have to find out..." Hayden walks towards the kitchen sink, just in case I decide to video him. He nervously places the jelly bean in his mouth and chews a little, then chews a lot. "What is it?" asks Josh, "I think it's strawberry jam"he replies.

After Hayden's turn, only Rachel and I remain. I get boogers instead of juicy pear; vomit instead of peach, and centipede instead of strawberry jam. I keep eating buttered popcorn flavored jelly beans. One more remains in the box, I pick up the white jelly bean speckled with yellow spots, I place it into my mouth and chew..."Eww! It's rotten egg!" I scream, I run to the toilet and knock on the door, but she reply's with a "HEY! I'm in here!". So i run to the kitchen sink and spit out the foul, disgusting jelly bean, and drink milk then water, but the taste doesn't fade so I eat chocolate spread and orange chocolate the taste fades away a bit, so I sit down and eat chocolate till the taste is completely gone. "I am never playing that game again!" I say without a doubt.

Abby

My holiday.
I stepped out of the hot searing car to see the vast ocean before me. The salty air buffets my face softly, I walked to the boot of the car and pick up the picnic blanket I turn to go down the grassy ramp to the slopped steppes I traveled down the mud covered steps I stepped on to the beach the sand was a blanket under my feet. The sun Shone down and the heat washed over me.

I walk over to the sea the cold water laps my feat I travel along the sea edge until I see a cave to escape the heat in I plod up to it and slump down on the cold wet pebbles. I wait for the others to catch up to me. I see that the cave is chipped and chunks broken off leaving sharp jiggered edges.

The others arrive and we eat I venture further along the beach until I arrive at the a small rock with quartz veins all over it there are no stones to dig it up with so I rake my hands over the sand slowly and pain fully I dig up the rock I find the bolder is from my hand to my elbow thick and an arm’s length long I see two fractures in the stone from the top to the bottom
I travel along the beach I find two large stones on the beach I carry both of the large stones to the bolder I wait for my arm’s to rejuvenate there energy I then lift the large stone above my head I bring it down on to the other stone it breaks down the crack I do the same to the other stone down on it as well I lob it up the steppes to the car and leave.

My Holiday in Paris

In the middle of our Holiday we were not relaxing on a hot Sunny, Summer Beach, but the opposite we were in Paris, waking up from our sleep in Hotel Du` Nord.  After Breakfast at the Hotel, of a huge Corrosion and a massive hot chocolate, we walked a long way to the Louvre Museum passing bridges were people had engraved locks locked them on and thrown away the key.

By the time we arrived there was a huge Que, I think it was so big because it was a free entry that day. Twenty minuets later we went through the security and down the escalators underneath the glass pyramid.  We went straight to the Monalisa painting, there were so many people there looking at the painting. It helped being small because we went straight to the front of the crowd. We then got someone to take a photo of us standing in front of it. We looked at a few other paintings and sculptures. After we got out of the Lourve we walked to a sculpture museum which had the sculpture "the thinker", unfortunately it was closed that day, but we grabbed a quick look at ''the thinker''.

Next we walked to the Eiffel tower and waited in another huge Que. When we got to buy tickets it was nearly 1:pm. We took lots of photos and then took the big yellow elevator all the back down, we went to a cafe in another museum and had lunch. I had a crepe and a burger.

Finally we walked back to the hotel to get ready to go on a high speed train back to Geneva Switzerland then we would catch a plane back to England then we would go on another plane back to New Zealand.
I was happy to go home but I would miss this trip.

George.

My Favourite Body Part!!!

My favourite body part is the brain, because without a brain I would not be who I am today. Without a brain I would not be able to walk, talk, remember things, think, learn, taste, see or breathe so in question I wouldn’t exist.
The brain is my favourite body part because it controls the rest of your body. Think of your body as a car and the brain is the driver as the driver steers the car around corners and bends and tells the car to go faster and slower as the brain tells you to run and jump or yell and laugh.
The purpose of the brain is to send messages to all your bones, muscles and organs telling them what to do.
The brain looks a bit like a walnut covered with a thin skin of wrinkled grey tissue or like a cloud with multiple sections containing information.
Did you know that the brain is made up of 75% water and that your brain can feel absolutely no pain, amazing huh?

Influences on my life.

                                        Influences on my life.

There has been heaps of (many and many) influences in my life that have made me the person I have become, some of which are my family.

My family (especially my Mum and Dad) have influenced me in many, many ways.
They have taught me to use my resources wisely and well (including my belongings), treat others how I would like to be treated, treat them with respect and much, much more.
My family has influenced me to work hard to reach a goal, have good behaviour and a load more.

One of my main points that has influenced me LOTS is school and the teachers.
School is one of the places that I am at the most.  Six hours for five days a week is quite long.  If you add that all up it is 30 hours every week.
School has influenced me to do lots of things, like: show the PRIDE values.

The teachers in school have been a big influence over my 8.15 years.  They have influenced me to have a good attitude even when things are hard and also to learn from your mistakes.
Overall, Clevedon school and my teachers have influenced me to try and be a good student.

Another influence is money.  Or more specifically the influence is that money is not a important as you and your surroundings.  Friends and family are more important than money (or things).  When i have a little money it is nice but it goes so quickly!  That has influenced me to use it wisely as we have a limited amount.

Finally the environment has influenced me.  I love big open spaces and nature.  I have spent time in the city and it is fun but the countryside is fresher and more spacious.  It allows me to dream, to think and to feel free.

Over all, all these things have influenced me and shaped me to be who I am today.

Jaymeson.

My Favourite Body Part!

My favourite body part is the brain because it makes me who I am. It’s what helps us to learn, walk, talk, see, remember things and much more!

The brain is my favourite body part because it’s what controls your whole body. If we didn't have it, we’d all be DEAD! It’s what keeps us alive, and it’s the control system of our body.

The brains purpose is to tell us what to do. If we wanted to walk to the playground, the brain would send a message from the head, all the way down to the legs and say “WALK”. So then your legs would start walking. If you were getting chased by a fire-breathing dragon, your brain would command your legs to “RUN” “JUMP” “TURN” “EAT SOME ICE CREAM” “RUN!!!”

The brain looks like a walnut covered with a thin layer of wrinkled, grey tissue; Kind of like a very grey, squishy jellybean that’s melting in the blazing sun. I hope you can now see why the brain is my favourite body part.
